How Filipinos Learned to Embrace Football Today

posted on 21 January 2012 | posted in Arts and Entertainment

Football has undoubtedly found a new home in the Philippines. Thanks to the increasing popularity of Team Azcals, more and more Filipinos are learning to love the sport. It only used to be basketball and boxing as far as Filipinos are concerned but now, football is on the list, too. A few days ago, no less than david beckham and his Team Galaxy, came to the Philippines for a friendly match with the Azcals. They took the country by storm. People from all over bought the tickets and Beckham only had good words to say about the country and its people. In one interview, he expressed that he is overwhelmed by the very warm welcome of the Filipinos. He was so nice to everyone. Beckham even spent some time to teach some poor kids how to play football. On the day of the game, Manny Pacquiao came to watch and as soon as Beckham was made aware of the boxing champ's presence, he took off his shirt and handed it to Pacquiao as a sign of respect and admiration - truly a classy act for him to do.
