Annoying Dripping Faucets

posted on 5 May 2011 | posted in Home and Garden

Dripping faucets can be very frustrating since it will make our water bill significantly higher. Dripping faucets can do a lot of damage to our homes, especially if the leak is in the wrong place that will cause structural damage and will be costly.
There are basically two sources where a faucet can be seen in your home, these are your bathroom and kitchen. These are also the most likely places you will find dripping faucets inside your home. The one of main reasons of dripping faucet is a broken or worn out gasket. And the best way to solve it is by replacing it with a new one.
Use a crescent wrench on the head of the faucet, then loosen and remove it. You may be able to do this by hand. Look at either inside of the removed piece or where the piece was attached for the gasket. The gasket looks like a flattened rubber doughnut. Then remove it.
Replace the gasket by placing it to the faucet head. Make sure it is flat against the head and not buckled. Screw the head back into the faucet, make sure that the gasket is not caught or wedged in the grooves. Turn the water supply on and test it by turning the faucet on and then off. Observe for a few minutes if there is still a drip. Consult a plumber immediately if the dripping is persisting.
